Flooring Installations Aren’t All the Same

We hear a lot, especially on social media, about DIY (do-it-yourself) projects. More and more home projects are being pitched as these types of projects. However, don’t be fooled; not everything has a comparable DIY aspect! Flooring installation is one of those things.

Hardwood flooring should only be installed by someone who has experience in doing so. There are many aspects that, if installed wrong, will cause major problems down the road. For instance, if the installer fails to leave a gap between the solid hardwood and the wall, it could cause warping. Hardwood expands and contracts, depending upon the humidity and moisture levels in the air, as well as the temperature. The gap leaves room for this without that warping.

Installing laminate and vinyl is also sometimes best left to the professionals. Factors may be existent that could cause problems, or you might need other products to make your flooring installation go more smoothly. This is especially the case if your subfloor is imperfect or uneven. In such a case, you will need an underlayment to help keep the floor even and in good condition for as long as possible. If you skip this step, the laminate or vinyl, especially if it is thin, can become worn and might have holes develop in just a short time.

Another reason DIY flooring installation is not always the best option is that there might be underlying factors to keep in mind. One that comes to mind is the possibility of mold and mildew growth in basements and other areas where dampness and moisture can be a problem. In this case, you need someone with experience about the type of material that is best suited for your particular rooms. Olefin is a good option, but if you need a different type, a professional is better suited to make suggestions. There are even waterproof options available in many different materials, and the installation of that flooring is important.
