Carpet to Keep the Home Office Quiet

Did you know, in 2017, there were 3.9 million people who worked at home? That’s according to the The 2017 State of Telecommuting in the U.S. Employee Workforce, compiled by FlexJobs.

Those numbers are expected to keep growing.

When it comes to flooring, the home office has special needs and the flooring you use in that room, may not be the flooring you use elsewhere in the house. Noise reduction, for instance, can be a priority; many home office workers have their concentration negatively impacted by loud music, noisy neighbors, traffic and construction noise.

Even if the noise is outside, it still makes its way into the room via windows, floors, ceilings and walls.

We usually think of this flooring mainly for the fashion it brings to the home. There’s no doubt about that, and that’s a big reason why our carpet sales are continually through the roof, and our carpet store is always busy. With the wide assortment of colors, patterns, textures and styles, that work in any environment from contemporary to traditional, it’s pretty difficult not to focus on the beauty!

Carpet: Form=Function

It underscores that well-known architectural phrase, because it’s as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing.

This flooring does a lot, like shield us from noise!

If you constantly get distracted by noises, or even sometimes find it hard to hear on the phone, Houston’s Carpet Giant has an answer for your home office needs: A carpet installation.

Cut Pile vs. Cut Loop

All of this flooring has noise absorption properties, but some more than others, and cut pile is the king of noise elimination.

Cut piles are plush, thick and many of them have that little “fuzzy top.” They come in many types, including frieze and shag, among others. Like anything, this flooring has one drawback; that fuzzy top and plushness can make it difficult to wheel around on office chairs, so if easy motility is a priority, you might go with another type.

Probably the most popular, cut piles are ultra-durable (just look at the twist--the tighter and heavier, the stronger) and they come in a lot of different colors, patterns, textures and styles. The fibers are either nylon, polyester or wool. Nylon seems to be the most popular.

More Than Noise Insulation

This flooring isn’t a great heat conductor, but it does insulate by retaining heat or coolness. It’s important to be comfortable when working, so you’ll always have a temperature-perfect, soft and plush material for your feet.
